Word Count: 64,094
So can you guess what happened on Friday? That’s right. My alarm clock didn’t go off.
Well, it did, but I guess I didn’t hear it or it was on silent or something. I thought about updating later that day, but I didn’t have a good word count so I wanted to get ahead before I updated.
Yesterday I had 4.5 cups of hot chocolate and made it through 13,000 words! And how did I do it?
Well, I told myself that I couldn’t stop looking at the computer screen and my fingers couldn’t leave the keyboard for ten minutes. And that worked for a while, with 10 minute word sprints. But then I got tired of that and I figured out another modivation.
I was at 52,000 words and I wanted to get to 60,000. I also really wanted hot chocolate. I continued to do the ten minute thing, but told myself that once I got to 54,000 I could go get coco. At 56,000 I could go get dinner. At 58,000, another cup of coco. And at 60,000, I could go get another cup of coco.
And let me tell you, it works. I kept doing this, giving myself small goals and then rewarding myself with a bathroom break or a refill. Or peanut butter. Usually peanut butter. I continued until about 1 am, and now I’m going to do it again today.
I challenge you all who are struggling to try this! Also saw a youtube on writer’s block that said that the only way to get past it is to allow yourself to write trash. And if that does’t work, make yourself write trash. Granted, what you end up writing probably won’t be trash, but at least it will give you something to edit. Let’s just say that after writing all day yesterday, I’m sure I wrote some pretty great trash.
Have fun writing!
